c237 |
#1, 5¢ red brown first issue, early impression,
bearing a superb SOTN strike of red Hudson River Mail 17 bar in
circle killer (Skinner-Eno SD-G 53). Stamp margins touch left
and bottom, are clear on top and wide at right but curving in at
bottom. There is a small tone spot at upper left, but the stamp is
otherwise bright, fresh, and without thins or creases. A terrific
example of a very difficult first issue cancellation. |

at bottom right is noted). This is one of the rarest and most
spectacular killers from this small Mississippi town (I am aware
of only two covers, one PF certified, bearing strikes and have seen
no other off-cover examples). A fantastic 1867 issue fancy cancel
for the finest collection. |
