#W131, VF 2 cent
Jackson wrapper entire, opened
for display. The wrapper was sent to Paris, France from New
York, where it received a black cork killer, and red NEW YORK PAID JUL 1 exchange office postmark and red boxed "PD" front and back. Front bears a red "ETATS-UNIS CHERBOURG 12 JUL 75 receiver. Cover sent to Smith Owen c/o N. F. Fenwick, No. 8 Rue St.
George, Paris (blue oval receiver on reverse). Address penned out
and a new address for Smith Owen c/o Messrs. Rob't Thode & Co., Banker, Dresden,
Germany applied on reverse where a green 5 centime Ceres head stamp
canceled JUL 13 has been applied for forwarding postage. Unfortunately, the wrapper has lost a (presumed) 1 cent
Banknote stamp that was positioned just below the wrapper indicia
and would have just been canceled by the cork killer. The missing
stamp would have completed the 3 cent newspaper rate to France.
Nevertheless, this is an extremely scarce example of a foreign destination wrapper forwarded to a
second foreign destination. |
